31 women’s organisations from 22 nations will meet
to fight cervical cancer and break the silence about the disease!
- World Health Organization (WHO) reports about 510 000 cases of cervical cancer each year and 288 000 related deaths1.
- WACC 2010 Forum: 26 conferences and meetings over 2 days with 44 international experts including Medicine Nobel Prize Harald zur Hausen and all international health organisations (WHO, UN-IARC, UICC,…).
- Woman Against Cervical Cancer (WACC) is a global movement of women and advocates: experts, from 120 organisations including nearly 50 women’s associations and patient groups from over 40 countries of all continents, will meet to discuss progress and difficulties, to exchange evidence-based information (~40 new studies) as well as best practices on cervical cancer management, treatment, education and prevention.
- Women and patient organisations from the WACC network will also meet researchers and medical practitioners – Doctors Against Cervical Cancer - from the scientific society EUROGIN2 in one unique international conference “The Art and Science of Cervical Cancer Education”.
- Lack of information and taboos are the 2 main barriers to cervical cancer prevention, screening as well as vaccination.
- The WACC Awards second edition: the Women Against Cervical Cancer Foundation is again in 2010, rewarding a women’s initiative or a patient association in its effort to inform, educate, and help preventing cervical cancer.

Speakers will include, besides leading experts on cervical cancer and HPV, experts on public health prevention or on patient information, including from the World Health Organisation (WHO), IARC and UICC. Professor Harald zur Hausen, 2008 Medicine Nobel Prize, will open the international public health conference entitled “Women, out of the shadows, breaking silence, with the support of health professionals”.

2 The Women Against Cervical Cancer Foundation has been launched under the auspices of EUROGIN (EUropean Research Organization on Genital Infection and Neoplasia), the leading international multidisciplinary organisation involved in research, training, screening, prevention and information concerning genital infections, pre-cancers and cancers in women. Established over 20 years ago, EUROGIN has identified an urgent need for a global network to provide education with a specific focus on women and the general public.
Women Against Cervical Cancer Foundation (WACC) is an international network of voluntary organisations, institutions, NGOs and individuals committed to the fight against cervical cancer. WACC strive for all women to be informed about human papillomavirus (HPV) and its associated diseases, about the best means of prevention and control of cervical cancer, so that women can make informed choices and take action to eliminate the diseases.
